Introduction:

In 1979 we released SR-Lambda, a product that has continued over the years to enjoy steady popularity among audiophiles all over the world. This is a product that has grown in maturity as the years have gone by through the incorporation of new technology and materials. Although it came into being in the analog age, this is a rare example of a long-running model that is equipped with forward-looking qualities that have enabled it to survive as an entirely modern product also in the digital age. The SR-Lambda series is still going strong in 2009, some thirty years after its release. To commemorate this, we are releasing worldwide one thousand SR-404 Limited products based on special specifications.

Special specifications 

Use of a newly developed silver-plated hybrid cable:

Even when the same speaker unit is being used, the final sound quality is likely to differ considerably depending on the capacity and dimensional ratio of the enclosure, the structure, the materials, the design and parts of the network, and even the cables used for internal wiring. This means that, when evaluating the cables used in an audio system, it is necessary to pay particular attention to a whole range of conditions such as the current transmission section and the voltage transmission section. In the case of headphones, it’s also important to take account especially of flexibility and of internal breakage which is caused by the extremely high flexing frequency during use. SR-404 LIMITED is equipped with an exclusive, newly developed cable. The core cable makes use of a highly reputed 6N Cu high-purity soft copper cable (diameter of 0.14 × 3) with six silver-plated soft copper wires (diameter of 0.08 × 9) set around the core cable. In order to reduce the volume between the wires, the overall structure is of the parallel type as in the case of previous models. This has made it possible to enhance yet further the freshness of the sound and to add a sense of natural and immediate luster to the sound of the existing Lambda series. 

Inclusion of real sheep’s leather ear pads:

The real leather ear pads that have met with such a favorable response through their use on Stax’s high-end ear speakers have been newly designed to fit the shape of SR-404 and are being used with this new model. The main purpose of using real leather has been to achieve the air-permeability that is the exclusive preserve of real leather and to make improvements in the way in which the speakers fit on the head through the provision of greater flexibility. But these improvements have also contributed significantly to improvements also in the freshness and the refinement of tone quality. 

Body design and emblem:

High-class matt black has been used as the body color for this limited one thousand-piece release of SR-404 LIMITED. The legend “Lambda Series 30^th Anniversary” appears on the head arc, and the emblem “SR-404 LIMITED” appears on the top and sides of the main unit.
